What a day! We
lunched at Brothers and camped at Sisters.
The Route
We drove 147 miles on US-20W.
About the Day
It was 59° when we left Burns.
There was no wind and much of the smoke haze had disappeared. The temperature got up to the high-70s. The smoke haze and smell increased as we
approached Bend. All fires in the area
are contained.
Getting Started
We got on the road at 10 am.
Burns is a cowboy town. |
On the Way
Surprise! Blue sky for the first time in days. |
US-20 was pretty desolate.
We passed Riley (and don’t remember seeing anything), Hampton (was just
a roadside café) and Brothers (was a stagecoach stop with a few surrounding buildings
and no gas).
We saw lots of desert. |
Brothers …
This sign got us. We stopped for lunch. |
The surroundings were in rough shape. |
Between Brothers and Bend …

Sisters
We drove the 3 miles from the campground to Sisters and discovered a small, vibrant, tourist community. All of the businesses support the "western town" theme, have nicely maintained buildings and sell high quality products. We strolled the main street (US-20) and did some shopping.
The Campground
We’re camped at the Bend/Sisters
Garden RV Resort. It may be the best
campground we’ve stayed in.

Fire Update
About 1,000 firefighters were staged at an “Incident Base” next
to our campground in the past few weeks.
They’re gone now.
Tomorrow
We’ll arrive in Portland.
