Day 32 – Meridian, ID to Burns, OR

We either drove really fast or gained an hour.

The Route
We drove 183 miles.  Starting on I-84W, we drove to Fruitville, ID where we connected with US-20W and followed it to Burns.

The route passed huge farms and ranches.  Traffic was very light.

About the Day
It was 66° when we left Meridian.  There was little wind and the smoke haze was much like yesterday.  The temperature got up to the mid-80s (with 22% humidity).  We were able to glimpse some exciting terrain along US-20.

Getting Started
The KOA campground is located within a busy area of Meridian.  They really pack the RVs in.  We felt pretty squeezed.
Bumper to bumper squeeze.
Side to side squeeze.
And some campers had already left.

We got on the road at 10:15.

Hello Oregon …

Along US-20 …
Vale, OR …
Vale is an interesting farm community.  Almost everything there has been around for a while.  We stopped at Mal’s Diner for breakfast and noted some of the history.
A classic 50's diner
Oregon Trail Murals are displayed
throughout the community.
An abandoned hot spot.

New landscape peeked through the smoke.

Travel Trivia
We didn’t see any gas stations between Vale, OR and Burns, OR.  That’s none for 113 miles.

We paid $3.099/gallon for gasoline in Burns.  It was the highest so far.

The Campground
We’re camped at the Burns RV Park.  Though it’s located on US-20, it’s a very nice stop.  The staff is delightful and the sites are attractive.  They will be full tonight.
They have a sense of humor.
It's quite peaceful here.

We’re hearing thunder at 5:00 pm.  Some rain would certainly help the area.

We're enjoying a nice rain shower at 7:00 pm.

Tomorrow
We’re heading to our last stop before Portland … at Bend.
