Today
wasn’t good for pictures. Smoke from
area wildfires moved into the valley.
The Route
We
drove 220 miles, starting with I-15N at Provo and switching to I-84W just north
of Brigham City. Driving on I-15
between Provo and Ogden was a culture shock after having spent weeks exploring
remote areas. Beyond the chaos of dealing
with big city traffic, the rest of the trip was uneventful.
About the Day
Except for the smoke, this was a pleasant day. It was sunny and 68° when we left the campground. The temperature got up to 87°.
Getting Started
We got on the road at 10am.

On the Way
Along I-15 …
The morning sun and scenery were dimmed by smoke.
Wasatch Mountains are behind a veil of smoke |
The haze reminded us of great losses. |
Northern Utah …
The terrain presented a drastic change from what we saw at Capitol Reef and Grand Staircase-Escalante. A number of the exits displayed "no services" signs as we approached the Idaho state line.
Large ranches and farms line the highway. |
It sure felt lonely. |
Idaho …
The scenes (and smoke) were similar in Idaho. |
Travel Trivia
We usually end the travel day when we’re tired of driving. Rarely do we keep going just to get to a
“familiar” campground. After 10 years of
Airstream travel (94,210 miles of driving, 82,262 miles of towing and 382
setups), we’ve ended up in a “familiar” campground just 27 times … usually by
accident. We stopped there because it
was the closest option.
We’ve stayed in 3 campgrounds 3 times.
Crawfordsville KOA – Crawfordsville, IN
Holiday RV Park – North Platte, NE
Taos Valley RV Park – Taos, NM
The Campground
We’re camped at the Village
of Trees RV Resort. We stayed here
on September 25, 2014 during the Canada trip. The sites are large, grassy and shaded. The services work well and the staff are
friendly.
Plan Change
We changed our route to Portland. A section of I-84 in the
Columbia River Gorge has been closed due to the Eagle Creek Fire. We’ll leave I-84 at Fruitland, ID and take US-20
west through Oregon.
Tomorrow
We’re heading for Meridian. It's just beyond Boise.
