We’re
like kids in a candy store ... we’re surrounded by natural wonders.
The Route
We followed US-89N from Page to Kanab (UT), and then continued on
US-89 to UT-12 where we turned eastward and followed it to Escalante. It was a scenic 195 mile trip.
About the Day
The temperature reached the low 80s. It was a sunny, breezy day. The weather helped, but it wasn’t the best
part.
We drove through and by some of the most beautiful areas imaginable. Scenes from Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand
Staircase-Escalante, and Glen Canon
National Recreational Area bombarded us all day. What a treat!
Getting Started
We got fresh views of Lake
Powell and Glen Canyon Dam as we
left Page.

On the Way
Though US-89N from Page to Kanab wasn’t designated a “scenic route”, it sure seemed to be. These are just a few of the formations that decorate the land.
The views sure gave us a lift. |
Kanab …
Kanab is a real western town known for the movies filmed there
(e.g. Six Million Dollar Man, Lassie, Grissly Adams, Gunsmoke, The Lone Ranger
and over 80 more). More western movies
and television programs have been filmed in this area than any other single
location outside of Hollywood.
We stopped there for a delightful lunch at Nedra’s Too. It was a sentimental
do-over of a lunch we had there on September 4th, 2009.

Did you know?
Have you ever checked GPS mileage estimates with an actual
trip? The odometer readings of our last
two trips (i.e. 202 and 195 miles) were within 1 mile of the GPS estimate. How do they do it?
The Campground
We’re staying at Grand
Staircase Resort. It’s a very nice, new
(still being developed) RV park just outside Escalante.
Tomorrow
We plan to explore the area.
We ALWAYS love this part of the country!! As you said, it's like being in a candy store! Such great colors and shapes. I think that Bryce is my favorite, although Arches is a close second! Have you hiked in any of these Utah parks? Was it hard to pull a heavy trailer through these mountains?
