Day 19 – Taos, NM (Day 2)

It was a nice relaxing day, blessed with sunshine and a brisk breeze.

The Route
We drove to Taos’ downtown historic district and strolled around the Plaza.

About Last Night
Yesterday evening included some “stuff” that happens from time-to-time.  We figure it happens to make the moment memorable.

First, we arrived at the campground after the office had closed.  It turned out they had assigned us to a small, pull-in site.  Since we had to back in, all of the services ended up on the wrong side of the trailer.  Running the power cable and the water hose under the trailer to their respective connections was straight forward.  Feeding the sewer hose under the trailer, around the jacks and coaxing the contents into the drain wasn’t as easy.

Our steps ended up on the wrong side, too.  We step right out into sagebrush.

Finally, a gentle rain started as we were setting-up.  The rain continued for about 3 hours.  Carol noticed a leak in the rear fan.  It dripped onto the bed.  Argh … it’s the same problem we had in Alaska!  We thought the problem had been solved by our local Airstream dealer before we left.  Dick made a temporary fix and we both slept soundly.

About the Day
It was mostly sunny.  The temperature reached 75°F.   We enjoyed a 16 mph breeze.

On the Way
We started with a delightful breakfast at Doc Martin’s Restaurant in the historic district.
Carol’s Blue Corn and Blueberry Hotcakes menu selection (with Vermont maple syrup and seasonal fruit butter) were the best ever.

Then we wandered around the Plaza … and did some shopping.

End of Day
We planned a travel route for the next few days.

In light of what's going on with Hurricane Harvey, we're grateful to have left Corpus Christi 9 days ago.

Tomorrow
We’ll head north into Colorado.
