Day 12 – Comstock, TX to Alpine, TX

We hit a new trip low today … 69°F.

The Route
Like yesterday, US-90 took us all the way to where we were headed. It was a short (167 mile) trip with very few services.

About the Day
We were up at 8:30 am and were on the road by 9:45 am.

We woke to discover we weren’t alone in the park last night after all.  A family from Houston arrived and set-up their pop-up camper at about midnight.

Today was cooler.  It started in the low 80s and stayed there until a brief shower provided a cool-down to 69°F in the afternoon.

On the Way
Langtry offered a brief diversion as we headed west.  For the young folks not aware of Langtry, TX … it’s where Judge Roy Bean dispensed “The Law West of the Pecos”.  He was a saloon-keeper and Justice of the Peace who held court in his saloon.  Some of us know him from the 1956 TV series starring Edgar Buchanan.

Marathon was the only community/town/city of any significance along the way.  It had one gas station and lots of closed and abandoned businesses on the outskirts.  There was a small, modern shopping area in the center of town.  We enjoyed a delightful lunch al fresco there.

We saw this curious, pointy mountain.

Oops!  Someone's getting really wet.

The Campground
We’re staying at Lost Alaskan RV Park.  There’s obviously a story behind the park name we haven’t heard.

It’s quite nice.

Tomorrow
We’ll explore from here.
