We
started late, but drove longer than usual to make it to a cool place.
The Route
We drove 293 miles today by connecting with I-25 in Las Cruces and following it northward through Albuquerque
to Santa Fe. Our campground is just off
I-25.
About the Day
We got up fairly early, messed around with Dick’s medical issues,
and had brunch before leaving town at 12:30 pm.
It was mostly sunny all day.
The temperature reached a high of 92° F. and winds were light.
I-25 was in good condition.
We passed through many Indian reservations and by many attractive casinos.
The map shows that I-25 “goes up” from Las Cruces to Santa Fe. Our mileage reflected the climb from an elevation of 3,900’ to 7,199’. We were rewarded with a temperature in Santa Fe at 8 pm of 67° F.
On the Way
We passed two of our favorite places along I-25 … Elephant Butte Lake State Park near Truth or Consequences and Buckhorn Tavern in San Antonio, NM.
The scenery is beautiful …
Border inspections …
We passed through the inspection station just north of Las Cruces. It was obvious they wanted our picture.
Highway artistry …
We noted the attractive decoration of El Paso and Las Cruces overpasses yesterday. Albuquerque continued the theme.

The Campground
We’re staying at Rancheros
de Santa Fe Campground. It’s a
quiet, wooded campground just off I-25.

Sunset
An isolated thunderstorm brought a rainbow. |
Tomorrow
We’ll stay here and explore.
