Numbers help describe an interesting day ... think route numbers, temperatures, and mileage.
The Route
We left Corpus Christi by driving westward through the center of the city on TX-358, connected with TX-44W and took US-83N
into Uvalde. It was a 243 mile trip.
About the Day and the Numbers
We were up at 8 am and on the road by 9:30 am.
The day was hot ... 91°F
when we left Corpus Christi and 103°F
on US-83 approaching Uvalde.
There was a “nice” breeze most of the day. It began as a cross-wind as we drove west and became a tail-wind when we turned north on US-83.
It did wonders for our average trip mileage (which had dropped significantly since
leaving Arkansas). We started the day at
12.3 mpg and ended it at 14.1 mpg.
The trailer Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) is working great
and is reassuring. It gives us constant
readings of each tire’s air pressure and temperature … both good to know on a
really hot day.
Along the Way
We picked an out-of-the-way route; one we haven’t traveled. It gave us some interesting sights. We saw no other RVs today.
Most of the cotton had been harvested. The fields were bare and lined with wrapped cotton modules (they can weigh over 6,000 pounds each).
The landscape and ground cover changed as we continue west.
There was lots of cactus |
Oil & Gas Facilities Were Operating Along the Entire Route |
Ranch entrances varied in design. Some were fancy, some not so much. We didn't see any of the ranch houses/homes or outbuildings.
Uvalde
We arrived at around 4 pm |
Uvalde is a nice town with some rough sights. |
The temperature at 5 pm in Uvalde was 100°F with humidity of 32%. There was a 10 mph breeze.
The Campground
We’re staying at Quail
Springs RV Park. It may be one of
the best campground stays of the trip.

Tomorrow
We’ll continue westward to Seminole Canyon State Park.
